Biography:
James Downie Robertson studied at the Glasgow School of Art. Following graduation, he spent a period in Spain and a summer at Hospitalfield. Later he started teaching at the art school, becoming a full-time lecturer in 1967. Predominantly a landscape painter, he was compelled to capture the mood and feel of the places he visited. In his painting and teaching, he was an influential figure in Scottish art across a career spanning five decades. His work is held in many public and private collections across the world, including that of members of the Royal Family.
