Note: This work was purchased by the present owner at a high profile charity auction in 2006 hosted by the Royal Provost of Glasgow in aid of the Hikkaduwa Area Relief Fund, to assist Sri Lankan communities devasted by 2004's tsunami.
Having been born into and raised in a small fishing community himself, John Bellany was moved to donate this specific painting in solidarity with the fishing villages that were destroyed. At the auction the work raised a significant proportion of the funds required to provide a new community centre for the village of Dodandua, as well as an outdoor theatre named after the artist himself.
