Note: The artist has dated this painting for us to the period 1968-72. The owl on the figure's right hand shoulder was inspired by Antoni Clavé, a Catalan artist who he admired. The work uses many of Byrne's recurring motifs, including the "still-life or moon section" above the left hand shoulder, designed to tip the picture plane and very common in his practice at this time. The scumbly paint surface texture is also typical of this period.
