LITERATURE:
Christopher Dresser: A Pioneer of Modern Design, Widar Halen, Phaidon Press Ltd, London, 1993, plate 205
Christopher Dresser; The Peoples Designer 1834-1904, Harry Lyons, Antique Collectors Club, 2005, plate 351
NOTE:
Dresser produced several exceptional designs for Elkingtons around this date and the pared down lines of this sugar bowl give it a particularly 'modern' look.
The present example has been copied by Italian design firm Alessi who have reproduced it as part of their Dresser range.
An exaggerated drawing of this bowl appears in Dressers article for 'The Technical Educator', 'Principles of Design' which appears base the design on Egyptianesque forms.
