NOTE:
The shape of this claret jug derives from ancient Greco-Roman Askos; leather bags or wine skins. The shape has been widely adapted and was particularly popular in the 1830's to 50's - silver manufacturers such as Paul Storr and William Elliott in London were making silver mounted examples at this time.
