skilfully carved to show two playful monkeys, one seated leaning forward with hands encircling a large peach, the other monkey bracing on foot, reaching its body and long arms around the back of its companion, grasping a leafy branch of a peach tree, the stone of even colour with some opaque white and pale brown inclusions, with later dark spinach jade stand

Note:
A similar carving but of a single monkey holding a peach was sold at Sotheby's London on 6th November 2013, lot 28. A carving of similar large size and subject matter is illustrated in Robert Kleiner: Chinese Jades from the Collection of Alan and Simone Hartman, Hong Kong, 1996, pl. 188 and sold at Christie's Hong Kong on 27th November 2007, lot 1557.
