This lot includes Patricia Fullerton's monograph on Ramsay and a CD
The picture was purchased by the vendor at Phillips, Edinburgh and they have done extensive research on it.
The Ramsay scholar, Patricia Fullerton, the artist’s great niece and author of the major work on him included here, stayed with the vendor and has authenticated the painting. A card from her is included in the lot.
It has the same canvas and is of the same size as other works by him.
It is possible that the sitter was his aunt, Grace Darling.
It is also possible that this is the painting entitled
Old Woman with White Bonnet
Exhibited in the National Gallery of Victoria’s Hugh Ramsay exhibition in March 1943. (number 37). A copy of the catalogue is also included with the lot.
There is a very small hole in the canvas.
