The first, captioned Canon Alberic's scrap book, depicts a scene from a story by M.R. James, in which an English collector is tormented by a mysterious demon that has lept from the pages of a seemingly beautiful scrap book he has just purchased. The second, captioned Madam Crowl's ghost, depicts a scene from a tale by J. Sheridan LeFanu.
