Footnote
Note: With an early 20th century note "This Bible belonged to Oliver Cromwell, Protector of England. It was in the library of the Earl of Hyndford at Mauldslie Castle and when that nobleman's library was sold (about the beginnning of the 19th century) by public auction at the rooms of David Mann in Saltmarket Glasgow, this Bible was purchased by Thomas Hogg whose name is written on the fly-leaf. For connection with the Public Sale this Bible was described by advertisements in the Edinburgh and Glasgow newspapers of the time as the Bible which belonged to Oliver Cromwell, Protector of England. The typographical errors so frequent in most copies of this edition correct in this except one. Oliver Cromwell read during his speech in the Painted Chamber on 16th Sept. 1656 (a very hot day) the LXXXV Psalm. On page opposite there is a distinct thumb-mark, the only one in the book.
Exodus VVIV.10 "thy" underlined with red ink.
Together with a letter from J. V. Hewison thanking Mrs Dobbie for the loan of the Cromwell Bible to the Glasgow exhibition, 22 Nov. 1910.
