Footnote
Note: These humorous sketches were studies for the group portrait of the representatives of the founding members of the Bank for International Settlements. The bank came into existence in May 1930, initially as a functional replacement for the Dawes plan, acting as a transfer agent for reparations and war-debt payments. The subjects of the portraits include Montagu Norman, Governor of the Bank of England, Emile Francqui, Sir Charles Addis, Charles Dawes, J.P. Morgan and numerous other well known banking figures of the banking world.
