Atkins" on front endpaper and with several authorial pencil corrections in the margins, original cloth, lightly rubbed (2)

Note: John Black Atkins was dispatched to cover the Boer war as a correspondent for The Manchester Guardian. He met Winston Churchill on the way out and travelled with him to Durban. He mentions him in The relief of Ladysmith and chapter VII ["Mainly Winston Churchill"] of his autobiography, recounts his memories of Churchill during the Boer war.
