Footnote
Note: The very rare first edition of one of the earliest compilations of African- American biography including sketches of famous African-Americans such as Phyllis Wheatley and Toussaint l'Ouverture. Abigail Mott, a prominent Quaker and resident of Mamaroneck and Purchase, N.Y. and later Burlington, N.J., was a pioneer campaigner for African American rights and the abolition of slavery. Only three copies of this edition recorded in British libraries: BL, Oxford and Leeds; no copy traced in the Library of Congress.
