Innys, Regiae Societatis typographos, 1726. 4to (24.1 x 18.6cm), [34] 530 [8] pp., contemporary panelled calf, rebacked and recornered, endpapers renewed, sprinkled edges, half-title, licence leaf, engraved portrait frontispiece, title-page printed in red and black, advertisement leaf to rear, woodcut diagrams throughout the text, engraving by John Senex in text at p. 506, bookplate (James Pitt) reimposed to front pastedown, damp-stain to gutter of first gathering and frontispiece, half-title lined with Japanese tissue-paper consolidating a closed tear through the text, the initial letter of ‘Principia’ [Babson 13; ESTC T98375; Wallis 9]

Third edition of the Principia Mathematica, one of 1,000 copies on demy paper, from the total edition of 1,250. ‘This edition was the last published during the author’s lifetime and the basis of all subsequent editions. It was edited by Henry Pemberton … and contains a new preface by Newton and a large number of alterations, the most important being the scholium on fluxions, in which Leibnitz had been mentioned by name’ (Babson).
