First edition, 2 volumes, large 8vo (26.7 x 18cm), recased in blue leather with new endpapers, original gilt cloth cover retained on upper boards of each volume, 49 of 50 plates (4 chromolithographs with additional colouring by hand, 17 hand-coloured plates, 7 tinted plates), lacking plate ‘The Churuk Puja’ found between p. 26 and p. 27 in volume 1, the folding plan of elevations of the Himalaya mountains (usually found in a pocket at the end of volume 1) is laid in at end of volume, occasional toning and spotting to plates and text, frontispiece of volume 2 with tear at foot of inner margin [Abbey Travel 476];

Second edition, 3 volumes bound in 2, 4to (26.3 x 20.5cm), 20th-century half leather with buckram boards, gilt spines with raised bands, 16 engraved plates (two folded), spotting and toning throughout, repairs to title-page to volume 1 (text largely unaffected), tape repairs to worm trails on pp. 33-42 of volume 1, hinges of volume 1 cracking with repair to upper board, bottom margin of final leaf in volume 3 torn (text unaffected), bookseller's stamps on verso of final leaf and rear endpaper of volume 1 (8)
