First edition, 8vo, xxiv original pink fine-diaper cloth, lithographic portrait frontispiece of master shipwright Nowrojee Jamsetjee (with tissue-guard), a faint hint of contemporary handwriting across spine, rear joint superficially cracked, small worm-hole to foot of rear joint, extending into rear free endpaper and gutter of final text-leaf

A very good copy, unrestored in the original cloth. Nowrojee and Merwanjee were first cousins employed as shipwrights at the East India Company dockyard at Bombay, established by the Parsi Wadia family a century before, and were respectively the son and nephew of master shipwright Nowrojee Jamsetjee, depicted in the frontispiece. They travelled to Britain to acquaint themselves with the use of steam engines aboard ocean-going ships.
