All published of this rare account of West Indian flora. Olof Peter Swartz travelled to the West Indies in the 1780s, visiting Jamaica, Cuba and Hispaniola. Copper-engraving was a rare art in his home country of Sweden, so on his return he sent his drawings to Erlangen in Bavaria for publication there, but they remained unpublished and for a time became lost.
