First edition, presentation copy from the publishers with their ink-stamp to title-page, 8vo, original red cloth, spine and front cover lettered in gilt, viii 97 pp., halftone photographic portrait frontispiece with tissue-guard, one further photographic plate, spine toned, a few marks to covers, ownership inscription to front pastedown, frontispiece offset onto title-page, rear inner hinge partly cracked with webbing visible

The first biography of Mahatma Gandhi. The author was a Baptist minister in Johannesburg who in 1908 took Gandhi into his home and nursed him back to health after he had suffered a serious assault by a group of Pathan Indians.
