Baillière, 1852. 2 volumes in 1, 8vo, original cloth, rebacked with original spine laid down, xxix 206, xvi 448 pp., volume 1 with portrait frontispiece, map, folding tinted panorama of Lahore, 15 plates including portraits of Sikh rulers, local trades, and facsimiles of documents, volume 2 with 31 botanical plates, all lithographic, advertisement leaf to rear, text-block browned, spotting to frontispiece, title-page and panorama, occasional spotting elsewhere, small marginal worm-tracks to a few plates in volume 1 [not in Abbey]

First edition in English, rare, originally published in German in Vienna the previous year as Früchte aus dem Morgenlande. The author was a Transylvanian-born physician and homeopath who travelled in India in the 1820s and 1830s and served for a time as physician at the court of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in Lahore.
