Description
7 first editions inscribed as given by Rupert Potter (1832-1914) to Blanche Brooke between 1906 and 1912, the inscriptions presumed to be in the hand of Blanche, all published by Frederick Warne and Co., London, 16mo, original boards with pictorial cover labels, spines perished:
The Tale of Jeremy Fisher, 1906, front board detached, lacking colour frontispiece illustration; The Tale of Tom Kitten, 1907; The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck, 1908, front board detached; The Tale of the Flopsy Bunnies, 1909; The Tale of Mrs Tittlemouse, 1910, colour frontispiece illustration detached; The Tale of Timmy Tiptoes, 1911, front board detached; The Tale of Mr Tod, 1912, ring mark to cover label;
together with The Two Blind Mice. London: Frederick Warne and Co., 1904. First deluxe edition, 12mo, original red cloth with gilt decoration and title to front board and spine and pictorial paper onlay (36 x 33mm) within gilt and blind tooled rectangle, pictorial endpapers, 26 colour plates, lacking colour plate to face title page, all edges gilt, annotation in crayon to left pastedown, text block starting to detach, p. 85 (final text page) detached with crease to lower right corner;
and 6 further, similar, early editions, bindings defective, some endpapers and title illustrations lacking (14)
