A collection of some select poems, and translations, formerly written by Mr. Henry Vaughan, Silurist. London: printed by T. W[arren]. for Humphrey Moseley, 1651. First edition, 8vo (14 x 8cm), later half calf, marbled boards, lacking leaf [A1] with Latin verse ‘Ad posteros’, otherwise complete, additional engraved title page and errata leaf, upper board detached, spine worn with loss of author and title label, minor staining on pastedowns [ESTC R6212, Wing (2nd ed.), V123]

Henry Vaughan (1621-95) was a Welsh writer and translator of devotional works; his second work of secular verse ‘Olor Iscanus’ (The Swan of Usk), published in 1651 but with a preface dated 17th December 1647, ‘is the book one might expect from a young royalist of that time and place’ and one of the ‘great royalist publishing ventures of the time’ (Oxford Dictionary of National Biography).
