First Edinburgh edition (the second overall), with ‘Boxburgh’ on p. xxxvii (first state) and ‘stinking’ on p. 263 (second state), 8vo (20.2 x 12cm), xlviii 368 pp., 19th-century calf, spine gilt in compartments, gilt foliate frame to covers, marbled endpapers, edges dyed yellow, half-title, engraved portrait frontispiece, spine rubbed, half-title with offsetting from frontispiece (now bound after), frontispiece with loss to corners, a few pen-marks to list of subscribers, ‘stinking’ on p. 263 underlined and marked in pen, 2K4 (pp. 271/2) with paper-flaw to lower fore corner
