Footnote
A very extensive collection of books published by T.N. Foulis, started in 1989 comprising the library of the co-author of the bibliography and history of T.N. Foulis: T.N. Foulis. The history and bibliography of an Edinburgh publishing house, 1998.
T.N. Foulis was the Edinburgh and London publishing house who produced more than 400 titles during the period 1904-25. As publishers, Foulis were noted for the high quality of their output, their attention to production details and their use of the best illustrators of the day. Foremost amongst these were Jessie M. King, W. Russell Flint, Joseph Pennell, Frank Brangwyn, F. Cayley Robinson, Joseph Simpson and Katharine Cameron. Many of the books in the collection carry the “hallmarks of a Foulis book - the buckram binding, tipped-in color plates, elegant Auriol typeface, rose-watermarked paper…” An impressive selection of the coveted ‘envelope books’ is also included, along with several finely bound vellum editions from the press's output.
