First edition, large-paper copy with the plates on india paper, 2 volumes, imperial 4to (37 x 26cm), contemporary blue half morocco, top edges gilt, half-titles, 48 engraved plates (30 x 22cm) and 32 engraved vignettes (22 x 15cm), all on india paper, mounted, tissue-guards throughout, bookplates (William Gott) [Ray, The Illustrator and the Book in England, 11, & p. 13]

The most luxurious of the three formats in which this work was issued. Purchasers ‘could choose among engravings printed on royal quarto, as proofs on imperial quarto, and, “for the accommodation of the curious,” as india-paper proofs on imperial quarto’ (Ray). With William Daniell's Voyage Round Great Britain it was one of two works which ‘helped to awaken the British to the glories of their coastline’ (ibid.).
