Note: Fairlie Castle is some three miles South West of Largs and was the home of the Fairlies of that Ilk. Brisbane too is a local name. There was a thriving weaving industry in Fairlie village which specialised in Paisley shawls and this may account for the substantial number of recipes devoted to dying.
