painted in brown to the centre with martial or musical emblems and to the rims with a band of grape bearing vines between gilt borders, comprising a footed centre dish, a pair of sauce tureens, covers and stands, a pair of lozenge shaped dishes, a pair of shell shaped dishes, a large shaped dish, twelve flat plates and twelve deep plates, impressed Wedgwood and letters; together with accompanying letters regarding a private sale of the service in 1917 (36)

According to the accompanying letters and N. Hudson Moore's 'The Old China Book' (New York, 1903) this service apparently was made in 1787 for the Mesdames of France.
