Footnote
Note: The present lot was probably inspired by an antique portrait of an Imperial Roman child. Other white marble busts of the same subject are signed P. Franchi who was most likely a relative and contemporary of the Rome based sculptor Giuseppe Franchi (born 1831). Giuseppe Franchi himself descended from the Carrarese dynasty of sculptors that included Antonio, Francesco (active 1676-1728) and Isidoro. Francesco was a pupil of Giovanni Battista Foggini (1652-1725). For a similar example, see Bonhams, London 10 December 2004, lot 104.
