Footnote
Kishi Ganku came under the patronage of Prince Arisugawa, head of the distinguished Arisugawa court lineage, who conferred upon him the name Utanosuke in the ninth month of Tenmei 4 (1784). In the following year, he was granted the name Koma, read Ku as in Ganku. By circa 1786, he had adopted the art name (gō) Kakan, also known as Kakandō. His standing at court was further elevated in 1808, when he was appointed a court official and bestowed the honorary title Echizen no Kami (Governor of Echizen Province). At this time, he adopted the new gō Echizennosuke in place of Kakandō.
