Footnote
Zhao Zhichen (1781–1860), a native of Qiantang, Zhejiang. He was devoted to the study of antiquity and deeply versed in epigraphy, and was also skilled in painting. In his early years, his seal carving followed the style of Chen Hongshou, and later he studied under Chen Yuzhong. He absorbed the strengths of various masters and became the great synthesizer of the Zhejiang school of seal carving. His seal style is neat and upright, and he was especially renowned for his single-knife stone carving technique. Several of his seal impression catalogues have been handed down to posterity.
