Footnote
Libation cups carved from chenxiangmu generally resemble rhinoceros horn cups in appearance, compare with a related late Ming dynasty chenxiangmu carved 'landscape' brush pot inscribed by Jiangchunbo in the Beijing Palace Museum, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum: Bamboo, Wood Ivory and Rhinoceros Horn Carvings, Hong Kong, 2002, p.21, no.20. Further compare to other chenxiangmu cups: a pair of larger 'Drunken Eight Immortals' cups (8.8cm high), dated to 18th century, sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 22 April 2021, lot 3659; one larger (8.6cm high) cup similarly carved with ‘Eight Immortals’, dated to 17th/18th century, sold at Bonhams Hong Kong, 30 November 2022, lot 144; another cup of similar size (5.5cm high), sold at Bonhams London, 5 November 2024, lot 400.
