the baluster vase brilliantly decorated on the exterior with blossoming lotus flowers arranged in three rows amid leafy tendrils between bands of petal lappets, the shoulder flanked by a pair of gilt-bronze chilong-form handles with stylised tails, the waisted neck with a raised gilt-bronze band cast with lotus scrolls, removeable galleried mouth decorated with chrysanthemum flowers

Vases of this particular shape is believed to have been derived from a Tibetan kalasha vase. Compare to a related vase, mid-Ming dynasty, decorated with Buddhist lions and with Jingtai mark, previously in the Qing Court collection, now in the Palace Museum, Beijing, accession no. gu 故00119556.
