ink and colour on paper, each with inscriptions, two dated to the Daoguang Yi You year, corresponding to 1825, all with seals of the artist and collectors, the cover inscribed ‘Twelve Landscapes of Guilin. Remounted on the [torn] ninth year in the Guangxu period. Inscribed and collected by the Duan Fang Family‘, and a collector's seal

Dai Xi (1801–1860), courtesy name Chunshi, sobriquets Luchuang, Yu’an, Chunxi, Jingdong Jushi, and Luchuang Jushi, from Hangzhou, Zhejiang. In 1832 he was made a member of the Hanlin Academy, the prestigious body of scholars patronized by the imperial court. He rose to the position of Vice Minister of the Ministry of War, but later retired due to illness and served as a lecturer at Chongwen Academy. He excelled in poetry and calligraphy and was especially skilled in painting. Regarded as a major master of landscape painting after the ‘Four Wangs’, he was praised as a ‘powerful successor to the Four Wangs’, and his landscape works were highly esteemed in his time.
Compare to an album of eight landscape paintings, ink and colour on paper, made for the poet Zhang Xianghe, in the Metropolitan Museum, object no. 1984.215a–m. Also see two albums painted by Dai Xi, one previously in the collection of Wong Nan-ping's daughter Karen Wang, sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 8 October 2023, lot 6022; the other previously in Leshantang Collection, sold at same saleroom as before, 9 April 2024, lot 132.
戴熙（1801-1860），字醇士，號鹿床、榆庵、蒓溪、井東居士、鹿床居士，浙江杭州人。道光十壹年進士，十二年翰林。官至兵部侍郎，後引疾歸，主講崇文書院。工詩書，善繪事。四王以後的山水畫大家，被譽為“四王後勁”，其山水畫名重一時。
參一戴熙爲張祥河作，山水圖冊頁八開，藏於美國大都會博物館，館藏號1984.215a–m。再參戴熙作兩圖冊，其一仿古山水冊，兩冊共廿開，王南屏長女王元元舊藏，2023年10月8日售於香港蘇富比，拍品6022；另一臨石谷山水圖，十二開冊，樂山堂舊藏，2024年4月9日售於香港蘇富比，拍品132。
