Description
清 竹雕山水高士筆筒
rendered from a section of bamboo on very subtle bracket feet, carved on the body with a continuous shanshui landscape with a shed amongst dense pine trees and rockwork, two sages conversing in the building, opposite them with another seated scholar before the water, the base inscribed in ink with a five-character mark

Compare to two bamboo carvings, with a similar rendition of the decoration, one ‘ode to the Red Cliffs’ brush pot, 17th/18th century, and the other a large ‘Eight Immortals’ parfumier, 18th century, both previously in the collection of Mr & Mrs Gerard Hawthorn, sold at Bonhams London, 14 May 2025, lot 32 and lot 34.
