sturdily potted, the well-rounded mythical creature supported on four short legs, the sides carved with flames, a bell applied at the chest, and an upswept tail at the rear, the cover in the form of the animal's head, raised up, curved horn at the top, mouth agape baring teeth, applied overall with a greyish-green glaze, with a Japanese tomoboko wooden box

Compare to two Longquan celadon-glazed censers in the form of a Luduan, both Ming dynasty, one previously in the collection of Sakamoto Gorō, sold at Sotheby's New York, 17 March 2015, lot 27; the other previously in the Maeda Family Collection, sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 28 May 2014, lot 3413.
