elongated curved body of the sceptre of naturalistic form complete with ribbed grooves and gnarled twists, with six sprouting twigs arched backwards in the form of a lingzhi, the angled head incised with eleven characters, including ‘Qian Tang Jin Nong’ mark

Jin Nong (1687–1763) was a painter and calligrapher in the Qing dynasty. A native of Qiantang (modern-day Hangzhou), he was the foremost of the ‘Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou’. Skilled in poetry, calligraphy, painting, and seal carving, he began painting after age 50 and pioneered the unique 'lacquer script'. 金農(1687-1763)為清代書畫家,錢塘(今杭州)人,為「揚州八怪」之首。他工詩文、善書畫、精篆刻,50歲後始作畫,首創獨特的「漆書」。參考一件相似的樹根雕靈芝如意,定年清代,2013年5月26日於香港邦翰斯上拍,拍品23。
