Description
the spiral wooden grip bound with a double twist of silver wire, the flat section quillions and ring guard decorated on the outside edge with foliate scrolls, shaped thumb guard on the inner edge, the double edge blade with two short fullers each decorated with linked ovals with a large tapering writhen pommel, 76cm blade; and a mid 18th century English cavalry broadsword, the wooden grip missing its fish-skin cover and wire binding, the hand guard of round section bars with the outer guard attached to the ovoid pommel with a slotted screw, the front knuckle guard stamped IM behind the wrist guard, the shell guards of differing sizes decorated with incised lines, the double edge blade stamped with the date '1747' above the blade-smith's marks, 79cm blade (2)
