William Foxton (1861-1945) founded his textile company W. Foxton Limited in 1903. During the 1920s Foxton commissioned artists as designers, one of whom was F. Gregory Brown. The design for this particular furnishing fabric was conceived in 1922. At the Paris Exposition of 1925 it was exhibited in a monochrome colourway of black, grey and white and was awarded a gold medal.
