Note: These figures are studies for the right- and left-hand figures on the Dorchester House mantelpiece completed in 1873. Steven's decorations for the dining-room at Dorchester House, London was one of his greatest achievements for which he made countless drawings inspired by the Italian High Renaissance style, and in particular the work of Michelangelo.
