Biography:
Frederick Gore was born into a creative family, his mother, Molly Kerr was a dancer, and his father, Spencer Gore, a painter and president of the Camden School Group. His personal early ambition was philosophy, but once at Oxford, it was drawing and painting at the Ruskin School of Art, which captured his attention. He then trained at the Westminister School of Art under Henry Tonks. Following the war, he started teaching at St. Martin’s, inspiring students during term-time and then spending his summers painting in Europe – on Greek Islands, across Majorca and in Provence. He exhibited regularly, but never committed to any particular gallery for representation, wishing to maintain his independence. Throughout his career, he undertook important roles in the art world, serving as both a Trustee of the Imperial War Museum and chairman of the R.A. Exhibitions Committee.
