Area of Specialism: DESIGN
Ursula joined Lyon and Turnbull as the Associate Design Specialist in 2023.
Having studied Classics at the University of St Andrews, Ursula discovered the fine art and antiques world working for two auction houses in the South of England. This then prompted her to undertake an MA in History of Art from the Courtauld Institute in London, specialising in Collecting and Curating the Modern.
She is particularly interested in the Arts and Crafts and Aesthetic Movements, their nature-based inspiration and focus on traditional materials and practices. One of her favourite items recently sold at Lyon and Turnbull was an oak door by Sir Edwin Lutyens for Little Thakeham. It was displayed in the sale room hung on its hinges, allowing it to be ‘opened’ and creating a wonderful connection with its original setting and users.
Ursula assists the head of department with all elements of the auction process, including valuations, shipping, cataloguing and condition reports.
