James McNaught is an Associate Director and Head of Business Development for the UK.
James is a property graduate from the University of Aberdeen who sidestepped a financial career in the ‘City’ for his passion in the art world gaining several years’ experience in commercial galleries and then the auction rooms honing his knowledge and skills in all aspects of Fine and Decorative Arts.
James completed an MLitt from the University of Glasgow alongside working at Lyon & Turnbull which confirmed his passion for History of Art and his role in professional valuation services and business development.
James oversees all aspects of business development, creating and maintaining relationships and partnerships across the UK. James works very closely with public institutions, commercial galleries, universities, fiduciary firms and private individuals across the UK. He has been instrumental in major goods getting campaigns in Scotland and across the UK. James works towards securing many notable private collections, most recently, and to date a career highlight: Selected Works from the Paisley Art Institute Collection.
James has a passion for the history of collecting more specifically the Mercantile Collectors in Scotland in the early 20th century. His MLitt dissertation, ‘The McInnes Collection' was written - William McInnes (1868-1944) a Glaswegian shipowner who bequeathed his collection to Glasgow in 1944. James has lectured widely on this subject and is working towards further publications.
James works closely with both professional contacts and private clients across the UK to implement and deliver Lyon & Turnbull’s service, building strong partnerships with Wealth Managers, Private Banks, Family Offices, Private Client Lawyers and Tax Professionals.
