Head of Contemporary & Post-War Art, Charlotte Riordan and Director of the Wilhelmina Barns-Graham Trust, Rob Airey discuss the Trust and the life and work of Wilhelmina Barns-Graham and the St Ives School, highlighting key works that featured in the October 2021 white glove sale of The Wilhelmina Barns-Graham Collection.
In October 2021 we are delighted to present The Wilhelmina Barns-Graham Collection, an auction of works from the Scottish artist’s private collection of paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, ceramics and jewellery by members of the St Ives School including Dame Barbara Hepworth, Ben Nicholson and Sir Terry Frost which achieved an 100% selling rate. Every work of art in Wilhelmina Barns-Graham’s collection is individual and personal, because they map her friendships, and reveal the people that meant most to her as a woman and as an artist of the first rank. Collectively they throw light on Barns-Graham herself and on those fellow artists she knew well and admired.
The Collection was offered on 28th October 2021 at the Mall Galleries in London on behalf of the Wilhelmina Barns-Graham Trust (WBGT).
The Wilhelmina Barns-Graham Collection was shown alongside our Autumn 2021 edition of the bi-annual MODERN MADE auction at The Mall Galleries in London.
