The Collection of Peter Rose and Albert Gallichan began in the 1950’s, when they lived together – as cousins – in a flat above an antiques shop in Hampstead. Although their interest in Victoriana was unfashionable at the time, Peter and Albert’s early acquisitions reflected evocative quality, rather than intellectual conception.
A terrace house in Richmond followed the Hampstead flat and in 1965, they moved to 1 Montpelier Villas in Brighton. From then on, their scholarship blossomed, focusing on the great makers and designers of the 19th century. Their research led to lectures and publications in Great Britain and America. Whilst their house was furnished with pieces of museum quality, they also had a passion for items inspire by nature, and their eclectic taste saw them acquire taxidermy, shell dioramas, sand pictures and furniture from across the last few centuries. They saw the beauty and worthiness in artworks, of every shape, size and form. This wonderful selection of pieces is the second part of their collection to be sold at Lyon & Turnbull, following our single owner sale that took place in November of 2021.
