Presented in partnership with vintage poster specialists Tomkinson Churcher, this year’s Ski Sale will take place live online on Thursday 12 January at 6pm. The auction features a fine selection of original lithographed posters focused on winter sports and travel across Europe from Italy to Norway.
A highlight will be a rare vintage poster of St Anton am Arlberg, signed by a selection of international skiers at the 7th Arlberg-Kandahar in 1934.
Signed for artist and British team skier James Riddell at the 7th Arlberg-Kandahar Ski Race in the Rosanna Stubli in St. Anton, the famous meeting place of all international ski racers in St. Anton. This included Hannes Schneider, founder of the St. Anton Ski School who, together with Arnold Lunn, founded the Arlberg Kandahar International Race. The remaining signatures Gerda Paumgarten, Wendy Sale Barker, Lois Butler, Lili Stein, Walter Sterz, Alice Pennington, Bob Handley, Luggi Foeger, Sigmund Ruud, Otto Furrer, Dr Griffith Pugh, Jeannette Kessler, Peter Robinson, Enid Loyd and Lady Jean Rankin.
This stylish and collectable piece is expected to fetch between £3,000-5,000.
The Ski Sale feature nearly 50 posters, with other highlights including a beautiful image of Tyrol by Alfons Walde; a stylish St Moritz racing rabbit by renowned artist Alex Walter Diggelmann and a colourful work by Jaques Auriac of Megeve in the heart of the Alps.
