Contemporary & Post-War Art in Scotland

A Promising Year Ahead

Contemporary & Post-War Art specialist, Charlotte Riordan, tells us why 2015 promises to be another good one for contemporary art in Scotland

Most imminently, the GENERATION project comes to a close this Spring. Led by the National Galleries of Scotland, the project celebrates the last 25 years of contemporary Scottish art. Showing nationwide and showcasing over 100 artists across 60 venues, there’s still time to catch an exhibition near you!

Hot on its heels comes Lyon & Turnbull’s next Contemporary & Post War Art auction on the 18 March for which we now invite consignments. The highlight so far is our striking sculpture by internationally regarded artist Anish Kapoor (illustrated left). The instantly recognisable ‘dish’ form is coated in the artist’s signature red pigment. On an unusually domestic scale, this original work is one of a limited number of editions and sits at a guide price of £40,000-60,000.

Further artists currently set to feature in the sale include Scottish favourites John Byrne, Callum Innes and John Bellany. If you would like to include an artwork in the auction or simply require an up to date valuation please do not hesitate to get in touch. This sale is now closed for entries - catalogue coming soon!

Finally, most exciting of all is the news that this year’s prestigious Turner Prize is to be presented at Tramway in Glasgow. This will be the first time the exhibition and award has been presented in Scotland and seems only fitting given that the city’s art school has contributed countless nominees and no fewer than six winners since the award’s inception.

Charlotte and the Lyon & Turnbull team wish everyone a happy and healthy 2015!
