Reflecting Elegance

Georgian Gilt Mirrors

Mirrors can enhance a space in a great variety of ways - from the practical benefits of added light and perception of depth to the introduction of an elegant style statement.  Our Fine Furniture & Works of Art specialist Douglas Girton outlines a few of his favourites from the selection of 16 lots coming up in our auction on Wednesday 27 September.

The presence of a beautifully carved gilt mirror was a key feature in 18th and early 19th century interior design, progressing from the sumptuous ornament of the George II and III periods to the more restrained neo-classical works of the Regency.
