We are delighted to offer a diverse selection of watches ranging across makes, styles and periods in our 5 December auction of Jewellery, Silver, & Watches in Edinburgh.

Rolex is widely represented in the sale with eight different styles offered. The oldest in our auction is a Rolex Prince (lot 273), a classic from the 1930s. Rectangular in design with a split dial, this has been a good working example in silver. This design was often favoured by doctors as the seconds dial was clearer than most other watches of the period.

Lot 276 is an excellent, well maintained and cared for example of the Rolex Submariner of the late 70s. Lot 277A is a late entry and is a GMT model with what is known as the Pepsi dial, although this example has been well but carefully used by the original buyer, the bezel is somewhat faded, this shows it to be original. Both watches are in original boxes with papers.

LOT 276 | A gentleman's stainless steel wrist watch, Rolex | Submariner, ref 5513, circa 1979/80 | Dial diameter: 28mm | £6,000-8,000 + fees

LOT 270 | An 18ct gold wrist watch, Patek Philippe | Nautilus 4700/51 model | Case width: 27mm, dial width: 18mm | £2,500-3,500 + fees

One of the most sought after makes, Patek Philippe is represented by a Nautilus model 18ct gold wrist watch (Lot 270). At 27mm it is a versatile size that can be for a lady or gentleman.

There are six wristwatches by Omega, including a 18ct gold Constellation Chronometer (Lot 266). The Constellation model is indicated on the dial and also by the circular motif on the back case with a telescope in an observatory. This is an unusual model with subsidiary date and day dials.

Three diverse timepieces originally made for women (Lots 279-281) in the auction range from a classic late 1920s diamond set cocktail watch; a distinctly stylish Art Deco ruby and diamond set cocktail watch (when viewed at an angle resembles the rolling lines of cars and design of the period); the 70s/80s represented by a classic Rolex wristwatch in gold with bark effect integral bracelet.
