We are delighted to present a selection of paintings by the Scottish Colourist S. J. Peploe in our Glasgow gallery, as part of our celebrations of the 150th anniversary of his birth. Our exhibition consists of carefully chosen examples of the still life, landscape and figure study genres for which he is celebrated. Some of the works on display are to be offered in our 09 December Scottish Paintings & Sculpture auction, whilst others have been generously lent from private collections. Peploe had longstanding links with Glasgow, not least through his regular exhibitions at Alexander Reid's La Société des Beaux Arts gallery in the city, between 1919 and 1931. It is our pleasure to continue that tradition.

Associate Directors James McNaught and Alice Strang have curated this intimate display of paintings that reveal the range and depth of Peploe's exceptional practice, showing him to be one of Scotland's most important artists of the twentieth-century.
Alice Strang recently joined us from the National Galleries of Scotland, where she curated the landmark 2012 S. J. Peploe exhibition. She and James will be available to lead tours of the display, by appointment, on 16 and 25 November.
