2015 marked the 300th anniversary of the 1715 Jacobite uprising – an event that would revive the spirit and vision of the Jacobites and see the rise of one of Scotland’s most famous historical figures - Charles Edward Stuart, ‘The Bonnie Prince’. In commemoration Lyon & Turnbull were pleased to hold the inaugural Jacobite Sale - a specialist auction that showcased the cross section of the arts of the period that played such an important role within the Jacobite movement; from the traditional portraits, miniatures, fine silver, antique arms and rare manuscripts to the romantic and provoking relics of the rebellion and people within.
This celebration of Jacobite, Stuart & Scottish Applied Arts took place May 13, 2015 in our historic Edinburgh saleroom. With interest coming from both home and abroad, both from collectors and institutions, this auction was certainly an exciting event.
Following the success of the 300th anniversary sale, this popular auction, a greatly anticipated event in our sale calendar, now takes place annually in Edinburgh every August.
