The auction will include everything you might expect from the eclectic contents of a traditional English country house, such as good quality 18th and 19th century furniture and furnishings as well as an array of garden statuary and ornaments. Ian was particularly keen on portraits and figural sculptures, which feature strongly in the sale. He was also a keen dog lover and there are various artworks thoughout the sale that reflect this passion, such as a study of a greyhound by a follower of Sawrey Gilpin and a group of animalier bronzes after Pierre-Jules Mêne.
We are delighted to present the contents of Beal House, Yorkshire, in a single owner auction taking place live online over two days on Wednesday 14th and Thursday 15th October 2020.
Beal House is a fine Grade II listed manor house near the small village of Thornton-le-Street, at the North end of the Vale of York to the west of the Hambleton Hills. The fine and eclectic contents it contained were amassed by the late Ian Stewart, a businessman who lived and worked in both the UK and the Far East. He had a keen and lifelong passion for art and antiques and bought Beal House, in the 1990s to house his ever-growing collection, which he continued to add to right up until his death in 2019.
