Hans Falk was born in Zurich in 1918 and is considered one of Switzerland's most important contemporary artists. He studied under Max von Moos, Max Gubler and Walter Roshardt at the Lucerne and Zurich art schools. Numerous posters, commissioned by social projects, exhibitions and theatres, were awarded top prizes. In 1964, Hans Falk won the Swiss National Exhibition competition with seven abstract posters. After prolonged stays in England, Ireland and New York (where his works included the Marcel Marceau series, winner of the Award of Excellence), the artist made the Sicilian island of Stromboli his adopted home. Among his best known work are his poster designs from the 30s and 40s, his New York and London drawings and his circus paintings, together with the abstract paintings from his Stromboli years, from which period the painting currently for sale dates.
